There is an urgent need to fundamentally change agriculture in a way that increases carbon sequestration – while maintaining food production. The goal is for the agricultural sector to adopt farming practices that boost carbon capture and reduce carbon emissions. In this way, agriculture can help combat climate change in line with the IPCC’s targets – and inspire others to join this journey.
Mousetrapper is supporting the transformation of Swedish agriculture through our investment in Svensk Kolinlagring’s transformation package. Through the Svensk Kolinlagring program, farmers receive financial support, guidance, and training to implement practices that improve carbon sequestration, soil health, and biodiversity on their farms. Higher soil carbon and better soil health lead to improved profitability in the long run, but the transition may come with upfront costs for farmers.
We have made a climate investment in 36 hectares of Swedish farmland – a way for us to contribute to slowing climate change, increasing humus levels and fertility, preserving and enhancing ecosystem services, and supporting a sustainable food system.
Svensk Kolinlagring is an initiative run by MiljöMatematik with funding from Vinnova.
