Sustainable design is more than production

Nothing is so good that it can’t be improved. We have an ongoing internal dialogue about implementing better sustainability thinking into the design process. This includes production but also ensures our products are easy to repair, maintain, and – most importantly – reuse.

Choosing materials, for example, is not easy. Aluminum is stylish, recyclable, and long-lasting, but the process of producing aluminum is extremely energy-intensive and comes with many environmental issues. Plastics, on the other hand, have a lower environmental impact but are recycled far too infrequently – and when they end up in nature, they pose environmental problems with consequences we’re yet to understand fully. The housings for Mousetrapper devices are made from recycled plastic from electronic waste, giving them a longer life, which is a positive step.

As part of our efforts, we plan to participate in seminars on sustainable design this fall.
