Theme: Earth’s resources – Part 6/7:

How do you choose materials?
Example: keyboard pad.

Choosing materials is not always simple. There are many aspects to consider, such as; availability, functionality, customer experience, and cost. And just as importantly, environmental impact.

Beneath our Mousetrapper products there is a keyboard pad, a foldable friction surface made from a soft, rubber-like plastic. It is used to adjust height and to prevent the device from sliding on the desk.

It is possible to use models that quantify how material choices affect environmental impact from different perspectives. By selecting materials with the lowest overall impact, resource use can be minimized and positive environmental impact maximized. This is a way of making data-driven decisions, clarifying which choices deliver the greatest positive effect.
